Course Description,
This unit will highlight the knowledge and evidence necessary to counsel patients on the use of natural products for the alleviation of symptoms of the common cold. Upper respiratory infections are common presenting problems for family physicians. Unrestrained use of antibiotics is increasing resistance of organisms and causing concern. This is in tension with the patients' desire to be helped by the physician. Natural products are a possible solution providing satisfaction to both patient and physician.

As an overview, the unit will provide you with a background understanding of possible therapies. It may later be useful as a reference when seeing patients interested in an integrative approach.
