To become an elementary teacher, you may complete a two-year liberal arts program at Northeast and then transfer credits to a four-year college offering the bachelor's degree in teacher education. We work closely with many area schools to insure a seamless transfer.
At Northeast, you will gain hands-on experience from experienced teachers and mentors in real school settings. You'll have the opportunity to visit with professors from the schools of education at four-year institutions and to begin to work on professional portfolios. Teacher education students take three types of courses. General courses are required of all associate of arts degree candidates and promote general knowledge. Subject courses help you learn the subjects you will teach. For an understanding of the teaching profession, you'll take professional education courses that teach you how to teach. Teacher education students have opportunities for practical experience in elementary classrooms while completing course work.
